Volunteers need training and would be the majority of our workforce. This will have a great impact on the service aspect of I Belong as well as keeping costs down.
The Importance of culture
A key step toward making your organization inclusive is to understand practices and culture.
Here are a few things of importance that we have thought of as we begin this program.
Working in an integrated setting is different for those with I/DD, We will adapt according to people's needs including, but not limited to: sensory & social demands.
For employees who will be involved in the recruiting process and management of employees with i/dd, additional training in interviewing techniques and more in-depth management skills is recommended.
Training the neuro-typical staff is AS IMPORTANT AS TRAINING THE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES. I Belong is committed to training all staff.
I Belong is committed to bringing change to the way neuro-typical people view jobs and job placement for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
